Providers Score a Landslide Victory Yes Votes - 8,382 No Votes - 96

What a victory – the largest union organizing win in decades. And you did it. You are now represented by the 100,000 member United Federation of Teachers. You got those ballots in and made it clear by 8,382 yes votes that you want to be part of the UFT.Pat yourselves on the back! You made it happen. For two long years you struggled and worked hard to become union members. You started by knocking on doors until you got 17,000 cards signed. You turned up at rallies, some of them street rallies to call attention to your situation and some overflow auditorium rallies to celebrate your victories along the way. You testified at City Council meetings, passed out thousands of flyers in all the boroughs in the rain and cold and summer heat and held strategy and leadership meetings that often included hundreds of providers. And then, when you got close to the finish line, you began a massive phone call campaign to get those Yes ballots returned. Here are a few examples of providers who added a personal touch:Lucy Garroway wore her VOTE YES tee shirt as she distributed flyers in housing projects and at busy subway intersections and bus stops.

Jenni Rivera drove around with VOTE YES posters decorating her car windows.

Susan Brewer hung a VOTE YES sheet in front of her day care center at a busy intersection. And all that hard work has added up to a smashing victory. Congratulations!
