Tabatha Cedeno
Born in Queens, Tabatha Cedeno started her home-based, child-care business 10 years ago. Previously, she worked as a teacher and assistant administrator at a daycare center.
Like so many of other Family Child Providers, Cedeno says most of the problems she has encountered in operating her home-based program have resulted from “lack of concern for providers on the part of city agencies.”
“When the health department inspectors come to your house, some have different rules than others. One might say, ‘You need this or that,’ while another might say nothing to that effect. Inspectors all need to be on the same page.
“We need a union because we need somebody to be on our side. I’m happy the UFT and ACORN are supporting the providers because no one else will.”
